vakkotaur: Centaur holding bow - cartoon (puzzled)

This past weekend... and not even including the wedding. Be forewarned, this is from the perspective of someone who is certainly not a New Yorker, but of someone who grew up in the country (no, not on a farm) and liked it that way.

Monday... and a few (more) observations )

Would I go to NYC again? Not anytime soon. I'd need more time. And more money. And probably a few more years worth of patience. And I wouldn't even consider it without a (native?) guide. NYC, even without seeing any of the "sights" is impressive and worth seeing. Even if only to confirm that you really don't belong there. I don't.

Am back from NYC. Wedding and reception was good. Good to see elf again. Good to see elf happy. Good to get out of NYC. Am so very glad to be home.

A couple more detailed posts will appear in the next few days. You have been warned.

And no, I don't mean the old radio show.

A few years ago I encountered the one and only [livejournal.com profile] bronxelf_ag001 and must have made a decent impression. Yesterday, to my surprise, I received an invitation to her wedding. Considering her "short list" is really short (single digits, it seems) I was rather boggled for a while. After all, I was someone she met under decidedly non-ideal conditions, for a few days on and off, a few years ago.

But she also made quite an impression. Those who have actually met Bronxelf and not just said hi & bye, know this is inevitable. An impression big enough to actually get me to consider going. Yes, to New York City. Yes, to the Bronx. Yes, for a wedding. Normally I tend to avoid weddings on principle of maintaining comfort... and my views on cities are fairly well known. That they are much like ionizing radiation: Can be useful in small doses, but prolonged or intense exposure is unhealthy.

Not that I expected to never set foot in NYC, but I expected it'd be something planned in a cooler season and probably to see [livejournal.com profile] michaelmink. And not the weekend after AnthroCon. Anyway, after a bit of checking this and that, I've decided to go. And hopefully [livejournal.com profile] jmaynard will be able as well to act as guide some of the time.

So, plane tickets have been purchased. A hotel room has been reserved. RSVP has been sent. And I am questioning my sanity.
