Yesterday jmaynard and I drove up to Minneapolis to visit
sistaur. Visit we did, and also had a nice lunch at Lindey's. After lunch we looked for a CD of music by Franz von Suppe, which was found with surprising ease, and also for Sioux City Birch Beer which was not found at all. We did find Faygo 'Rock and Rye' and some Creme Brulée soda which I bought just to see how they are.
Faygo's 'Rock and Rye' is a cream soda with some other flavor added, but it's not obvious just what that flavor is. The Creme Brulée soda really does taste like Creme Brulée.
Today I drove down to Armstrong, Iowa in search of birch beer. The clerk at a small store there said they had the other Sioux City products, but no longer carried birch beer as sales were slow. She also said that I wouldn't find it anywhere in Armstrong. Estherville, IA wasn't all that far away and is a larger town so I drove there. I found a ginger ale I'd not encountered before at a Pamida, and also some maple and even some caramel Nut Goodies, but no birch beer. Someone suggested I ask at the Hy-Vee liquor store, even though birch beer is not alcoholic, in the same strip mall. No luck there, either, either finding or being directed to birch beer. At the ALCO I once more didn't find it, but on my way out I was told that it could be found at the Hy-Vee... in Ames.
Ames is too far to go just for that, but Ames is also on my way to Kansas City, so a stop off there won't be a problem. Hopefully the information is still valid and I'll have some birch beer to take to RCFM.
