vakkotaur: (conbadge)

A while ago I mentioned that I had not yet received the RCFM 3.14 T-shirt. The shirt arrived in the mail recently and today I am wearing it.

vakkotaur: (conbadge)

Last year I posted a bit about some long lasting glow sticks from RCFM and it was suggested in a reply that when they finally were too dim to really see, only then was RCFM 2.0 over. I just realized I cannot consider RCFM 3.14 over yet, but the reason isn't as as fun and isn't a chemical or illumination curiosity.

This year when I checked in, I got the little badge, I got the packet of various goodies. I did not get the T-shirt, as there was some disorganization and supposedly the ones in my size had been misplaced. I was assured that I would get the shirt, even if it had to be sent to me after the con. Today I just realized that I still do not have the RCFM 3.14 shirt which was part of the supersponsor package. This is a bit disappointing as I really like the 2005 design and I recall thinking it was much better than the 2004 design. The 2004 design wasn't bad, I just happen to like the 2005 design a lot more.

I want it clear that this post is a "D'oh! I should've asked about this months ago." thing and not a "Why those cheating sons of..." thing. Check-in is at best organized chaos and while my name was on a list to have this taken care of, it's quite possible the list was mistakenly thrown out by someone unaware, or mistakenly updated by someone unaware, or some other glitch. I need to contact someone involved with RCFM and see about getting the shirt.

I wore one of the Red Shetland t-shirts today. I expected I'd eventually get some comment about it, and I did. I just got something I hadn't been expecting. The shirt I wore had this image or pair of images on it. The left (part of the) image is on the front and the right (part of the) image is on the back.

At the restaurant tonight, a lady spotted my shirt as she was leaving and proceeded to misread it, repeatedly, "Whatever don't kill you..." and I obliged and stood up, turned around (and brushed my hair out of the way) "...maims you!" One would expect that be that and a chuckle had. Nope.

"Is that an anti-hunting shirt?" "No."
"Is it about Iraq?" "No."
"Is it an anti-war thing?" "No."
...and some of this repeated with variations on the theme.

I was finally able to explain that there is a saying "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and it really isn't true. Then she claimed [livejournal.com profile] jmaynard and I were too deep into philosophy for her or some such. One of the younger members of the party seemed to get it right off, or at least appreciated the artwork showing Red Shetland. I doubted I had time to explain anything about the character Red Shetland.
