vakkotaur: Centaur holding bow - cartoon (summer)

I had some time and thought I'd travel a little bit, as mentioned in an earlier, locked, post. The result is that I took a two (long) day drive and am currently in the Orlando area of Florida and before anyone asks, I do not plan to go to Disney. I arrived Friday night and zonked out not just too long after returning from a late (for me) supper with [livejournal.com profile] cuttercoon and [livejournal.com profile] hgryphon. The drive down was largely uneventful. My only unplanned stop was to give some fellow the bottle of antifreeze I kept for emergencies. He had one. The only bad traffic was when just entering Nashville and going through Atlanta. I hope to not experience any worse on the return trip in a few days.

I spent much of Saturday at Flea World as my host, [livejournal.com profile] cuttercoon has a business, Grizzly Gaming Depot, there. It took me a while, but I think I managed to see all of it or at least all the flea market part. I didn't venture into the entertainment pavilion at all. There was a quite a bit of repetition of much of the flea market sorts of things. One dollar store looks pretty much like another. There were a few places that did not have duplications in the place that I could see. If there was another card/miniatures/role-playing game oriented store in that place, I managed to completely miss it.

While FleaWorld has air conditioned buildings, not everything is air conditioned. After a while I felt the effects of that, once rather more than I should have. Just as I noticed that, I found the rennie solution to electrolyte issues: a pickle vendor. The pickle vendor could only sell me a pint of pickles, or more, not singles. Any electrolyte shortage was rapidly taken care of. The hot, spicy pickles were great, but I could stand to finish the whole pint and any dehydration issues were soon addressed as well. Followed by an ice cream cone in a mostly successful effort to quench the spice of the pickles.

I spent Sunday not really doing much of anything, recovering from the drive here and the walking through Flea World yesterday. Of course at supper [livejournal.com profile] jugularjaguar had to twist that out of context and mock my claim of preferring to actual meet people to go going to theme parks. As if I should arrive after a two day trip and then, first thing, bolt completely from my host, or put myself at risk by driving in a strange area while not quite up to it. And I did did have supper with a few folks in the area, including him.

Monday started rather late for me. Sampling, for whole glass values of sample, a few beers at Ale House the night before was likely a contributing factor. For the record, Warsteiner is okkay, but nothing special. Harps might be a bit better though I not sure. Smythwick's ale is a good, dark brew. [livejournal.com profile] jugularjaguar had a sketchy plan for a few fursuiters to pay a visit, in suit, to the ailing [livejournal.com profile] kimberfox. With three suiters and three suits, it meant two vehicles and Cutter was kind enough to drive me. The result was a short visit by [livejournal.com profile] antimon, [livejournal.com profile] calamitycougar, and Orvan Ox all accompanied Cutter to keep the suiters in line. Well, mostly in line. After the visit, the group split up and I was taken to a sushi place.

While I had, allegedly, had sushi before, that was in Illinois and the sample I had didn't do much for me. Well, Cutter knows and loves sushi, and as this is Florida with oceans never very away... it seemed the ideal time and place to try it. I found I rather like it. I did not get terribly adventurous, but I think I had a reasonable (and quite filling) sampling for a sushi beginner.

I'm not sure what will be happening today, beyond that which has already happened, which was mainly just hauling [livejournal.com profile] hgryphon to work this morning. I am starting my return trip on Wednesday, figuring that with a two day drive back I'll arrive home Thursday evening and have some time Friday to takes care of things and recover before heading to Wisconsin for Christmas.

One curious thing I've noticed here is that the water here seems to smell a bit like fireworks or matches. I suspect it's treated with some phosphate though I'm far from sure. It's something that caught me by surprise as I had expected an odor of chlorine or chloramine. It's certainly different.
