1. Sleep in Saturday was quite welcome. Terry Pratchett's Discworld books are pretty good, but the Watch subseries is particularly engaging. A couple times last week I went to be around 10:30 P.M. or so and thought I'd just read a for half an hour or so, and then it was suddenly midnight. Oops.
2. Got ready for the Siouxland Harvest Feast, but first went to Ron Babb's place in Blue Earth to show off the garb. Last time
jmaynard and I where there, Ron wondered why we hadn't stopped by while dressed up. So in reply we showed up in garb and had a bratwurst or two before heading to South Dakota.
3. The Harvest Feast was good, though Jay didn't appreciate the yummy carrots, and someone committed gravy on the meat. The music was good, the dancing demonstrations were good, and a good time was had. Even with the moose. There was no moose. But one person (whom we know) has a laugh that has been dubbed a moose call. It became a game to see if it could be induced.
We were pleasantly, and quite, surprised by the seating arrangement. Instead of one of the several large tables to either side in the hall, we wound up seated at the head table with the Earl and Countess. I can only speculate on how that came about, but I have a few ideas, all of which could be right - or wrong. One is that the past couple years we have (or at least Jay has) sprung for the large patron package for the Faire. Another is that both of us have lent moral support (It all comes down "Don't Panic," really.) and have attended a couple, though by no means all, of the Siouxland meetings, including walking in a parade a couple years ago. And another is either or both of those, and a need to fill out the head table. Whatever happened, it was enjoyed. There certainly is a commanding view, and one did get the feeling when performers concentrated on the center of things (which was the usual, of course) away from the head table, that it was a bit of noblesse oblige. It's an interesting experience, though I'm glad it was all an act. There is a disadvantage to being at the head table. That is that one side is isolated from the other. It is easy to see this as an advantage as well - it would make it a bit easier to keep differing factions apart if that was required.
4. It was certainly sleep in Sunday. Normally I'd have spent the morning on IRC with
pharwarner but he wasn't feeling well and we agreed sleep would be best for him. So I had a bit of time free for other things. Laundry was done, some cleaning done, some work on a computer, amongst other things. Somehow it doesn't seem like much looking at the results, but I suppose it was progress. I hope to keep at things a bit each day, and next weekend, so that when
kinkyturtle visits, the place will be a bit more presentable. (And I'm just plain getting tired of looking at some of the mess, myself.) That part of the basement is on its way to being better wired isn't really part of that, but progress is progress and it will be nice to have proper outlets in place of extension cords and power strips in one spot.
Weather. We had snow overnight. Enough that the grass is covered or mostly so and the roads were more interesting than desired this morning. It's odd, but even machine exhaust seems a bit nice in the crispness. Perhaps it's an odor from pleasant times, or maybe just knowing how good it is to have a machine (whatever it may be) running when there's snow on the ground. There is a certain satisfaction in having something start and run in colder weather. Though today isn't all that cold (Yes, Jay, I know it's freezing out. It's November. It'll do that.) as it is still in the thirties, and that's above zero.
