As you've likely seen on the news or news sites, 70 years ago this month two nuclear weapons were used in warfare. There have been nuclear shots since - all tests. And wars since, too. But since August 1945 no war has gone nuclear. It would be nice to be able to say that that will remain the case with certainty. That certainty does not exist and a nuclear strike is not outside the realm of possibility. Thus, once again, this poll.

My answers have changed! We're back to the Russkies being the Ones to Blame. I've spent the last month doing some appropriate 70th anniversary things. Was in New Mexico for Trinity's 70th, and the week later doing a tour of the Minuteman training facilities up at F. E. Warren AFB in Wyoming. I was surprised that they'd go through the firing sequence in such detail. Had a great chat with a Lt. and a Major regarding what it's like doing Minuteman duty today. And yes, the infrastructure is decaying, despite what the official line is...

I don't actually believe that a full strategic nuclear exchange would be "the end of the world." Even the end of the human world. Quite probably, the beginning of the end of my world and your world, but that's hardly the same thing.
