1 November 2002 10:48Must be for Halloween and such. Mr. Cranky is doing the happy happy joy joy reviews this week. This saccharine reviewing on Mr. Cranky's site is so very wrong. It is probably the scariest thing I've encountered this Halloween.
Anime Crash (No, it's not a new Cartoon Network segment.)
It can be interesting reading some of the posts that show up in slashdot's metamoderation, since some good posts show up from stories one would might overlook or choose to avoid. One caught my eye this morning. It was about Cartoon Network's changing things and possible showing less anime. This is rather a change. The poster posited the idea that anime in the U.S. has been growing fast, but the rate is not sustainable. Thus CN may be on to something and bailing out, a bit, early, rather than staying around for the "anime crash" when the interest peaks... and then drops before levelling off. I hope the poster is right. I know many like anime, but I find it unwatchable and would welcome it being "just another thing" rather than the "the in thing."
Snooze, or lose.
Took a nap last night, then got up and wasn't quite awake, so truly went to bed. Odd, but not bad. I've noticed I'll tend to be sleepy and snooze a lot, sometimes losing an evening or weekend, but then be fine. And often after that, I see others get ill and feel lousy for days. Not sure what may have hit me last night, but given the choice, sleep seems the better option.
Furry. Orvan calendar. Other calendar?
rhiacat pointed out a site with the typical idea of furry as being prurient. Granted, the site itself specialized in such things so it is hardly to be expected that it'd concentrate on anything else. This got me to pondering a bit. I have the Orvan calendar up on the web and while it hints at things, it leaves "the next few seconds" to the mind of the viewer.
I'm wondering about a sort of FAQ for that, despite not actually getting any questions about it, really. As those who have seen the calendar or read the descriptions from which it was made, there are a few rules followed for the calendar images. They are:
* Orvan appears alone.
* There is some reference to Acme.
* No nudity is shown. A state of undress may be strongly
implied, but no "naughty bits" are actually showing.
That last one has a few reasons. I also have the COLT (yes, in great need of updating, I know) and I don't want any 'guilt by association' problems. There is also a matter of respecting the desires and limits of the artist who had valid reasons for keeping things PG-13 when the project was started. Also, I can show the results off and not worry about who sees the images.
Will these rules continue to apply? For any more calendar pictures, yes, at least for the second two. For any images I'll put on the web for public viewing, the last rule will continue to apply. That does mean, however, that there is a possibility of the last rule not applying, but the result would have a much more limited distribution. (Well, if someone wanted to use him for a page in Genus, I doubt I'd object. Like that's gonna happen.)
What about the first rule, where did it go? Well, I'll get to that.
There has been some question of a second calendar. The questions raised are:
* Will there be another?
* Will it be Orvan again? Alone (then first rule applies)?
* Will it be Orvan and another character?
* Will it be some other character(s)?
And that's a problem. See, I don't have ideas for another 12 images for Orvan alone, or with someone, or other characters. Of course, there is also the matter of time and cost. I paid commission for the calendar images, and I'd have to be sure I'd want to do that again. The rates are not unreasonable and the results are excellent, but I have to get as much out of the thing as I put in. Also, for characters other than Orvan (and Vakkotaur) I'd need permission from the owner of the character. This has already come up, in a way. A couple suggestions were made that I doubt someone else would find agreeable.
If money were not an issue at all, and I had the needed permission and ideas, I think two more would be good. The second being "cheesecake" to balance the "beefcake" (and no pun is intended, really, there) and the third with a couple. But that's a few ifs and maybe nothing will happen at all, or something I haven't quite figured out just yet.
Well, if you read this far... any ideas?
Oh yeah, Frontier actually did cancel the net account right away. I tried checking my Frontiernet mail last night and got the expected error. Also, my web page there (which wasn't much more than a pointer and a rant) is gone now.
