There is a fellow on my LJ "friends list" that distinguishes between an on-line character and the fellow at the keyboard by calling the one at the keyboard the alter-ego of the character. While I do not necessarily use this method myself, I certainly like it better than using the term "player" which, at best, makes one seem to be an automated piano and worst appear as someone involved in sports or other criminal activities. As with many things the term "alter-ego" gets abbreviated in on-line chat, to simply "a-e."
So, assuming that you are the character and have a keyboard-bound alter-ego (rather than the two being essentially identical)...

Date: 12 Feb 2010 04:46 (UTC)Oh, and tell alter-ego that even though he doesn't use me much (and is on IRC less), he should find a way to include an avatar of me in his picture list? I mean the one for "toons" is of an abandoned character?
'Scuse me while I retreat to my lair (ooo, makes me sound like a Bond villian!)
