Date: 11 Mar 2009 02:36 (UTC)I've blogged about the travails of our fish before (interestingly, the surviving one from our original batch turns one year old on Monday, if we don't kill her by then too ... ) and I think they make great pets! (Considering there's strong, vocal debate in our house about getting a quadruped for a pet, fish also make a dandy compromise)
I'm more of a fish eater than my wife, used to have them all the time in bachelor days, when I met her and first had fish when she was over, she said she wasn't a fish person, so I didn't buy any more for several years; just started to get back into that now (as part of the healthy eating thing we're going for), apparently I picked a good one from the store lately (one of those "fish and chips" style, no idea what kind it is, but Wikipedia says they're usually "cod or haddock", so I checked them both off) because wife said she liked it a lot!
Also, when we were visiting some friends of mine in Portland, OR on our coast trip a few years ago (you may know of whom I speak, (in)famous IRC denizens), he grilled some salmon on his backyard BBQ for us and it was fantastic! Neither wife or I are into salmon at all, but we raved about this (been trying to get the recipe from him since!)
I've gone fishing and ice fishing before, but the last time for both was over 20 years ago. I remember it was a lot of fun though. (You're not a true northerner (Minnesotans included!) unless you've ice fished ... )
