Mmmmm... tasty, tasty sea kittens. Drizzled with butter and lemon, or with tartar sauce, or breaded and served with malt vinegar...

Drooooooool....

Fish is one of those foods I have to be in the right mood for. I do NOT like salmon or tuna or most shellfish (MAJOR exception - in a properly made paella, but it should also contain chicken and sausage). Crab and lobster are OK, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. Crayfish are pretty good in a nice spicy jambalaya. Oysters are anathema.

What can I say? I grew up in the middle of a prairie.

Hmmm... I must have been an idiot when I did this. A few I selected the one below the answer I meant to click. Sorry I messed up your poll

That's not a problem. You CAN go back and change things. Click on the Poll #1363134 link at the top of the poll and then on the link [ Fill out Poll ] on the new page. Then you'll be able to see and edit your selections.

I have spent a lot of time living near water so you've got to figure if I like Giant Sea Bug and mud-dwelling filter feeders, nothing is off the menu. You didn't have an ALL option on eating fish. :)

Oh, I know I didn't cover everything by any means. The poll is plenty long as is it is and it cover a fair amount (certainly not all) of common things that come to mind when someone says "fish."

HOW are fish not meat?!

I don't see it either, but I suspect that "fish is not really meat" was a concession to get folks to go along with religious dietary restrictions: "You must not eat meat on $DAY, but you can have fish." So, no 'real meat' but fish was acceptable as it meant not being completely vegetarian for that time.

Interesting poll! Thanks!

I've blogged about the travails of our fish before (interestingly, the surviving one from our original batch turns one year old on Monday, if we don't kill her by then too ... ) and I think they make great pets! (Considering there's strong, vocal debate in our house about getting a quadruped for a pet, fish also make a dandy compromise)

I'm more of a fish eater than my wife, used to have them all the time in bachelor days, when I met her and first had fish when she was over, she said she wasn't a fish person, so I didn't buy any more for several years; just started to get back into that now (as part of the healthy eating thing we're going for), apparently I picked a good one from the store lately (one of those "fish and chips" style, no idea what kind it is, but Wikipedia says they're usually "cod or haddock", so I checked them both off) because wife said she liked it a lot!

Also, when we were visiting some friends of mine in Portland, OR on our coast trip a few years ago (you may know of whom I speak, (in)famous IRC denizens), he grilled some salmon on his backyard BBQ for us and it was fantastic! Neither wife or I are into salmon at all, but we raved about this (been trying to get the recipe from him since!)

I've gone fishing and ice fishing before, but the last time for both was over 20 years ago. I remember it was a lot of fun though. (You're not a true northerner (Minnesotans included!) unless you've ice fished ... )

While I have been "out on the ice" I have never actually been ice fishing. I have, however, assembled parts for tip-ups. So while I haven't been ice fishing, I have had some hand in production of ice fishing equipment.

I tend to prefer fish with white flesh over red. Mahi-Mahi is great when grilled. (I think you should have made the cooking method question multiple choice, since the best method for cooking fish depends entirely on what it is.

I also like flounder and yellowtail. I used to like catfish, but it doesn't seem to agree with me anymore.
