Rather than yet another summary of the year, statement of how wonderful or miserable the year was, or resolutions... have a poll not about any of those things!

[Poll #1323558]

How the heck did you know I wanted to do this? The new Hotel, with all the balconies, is just PERFECT for doing this! :D

You told me. In a poll a while back I asked what I should do a poll about and you suggested this.

It's been a really busy month. I forgot all about that. :P

I must say, despite my non-interest in attending furcons, this sounds very intriguing. Although I'd want to be the person who dictates where the pieces moves (ie one of the players - that's how it works, right, the pieces don't decide, the "puppet master" does?) - that's a power trip that's awesome. I don't care that I rarely play at chess and therefore suck ...

I really do not know how live-action chess is typically done. It was just a guess that the players are not participant but it could be otherwise. The kings could be the players, I suppose, and have to deal with the "battlefield view" rather than as a god-like outsider.

I don't play the game, myself, so this poll was a lot of guesswork mixed with minimal knowledge and just a bit of consulting. Yeah, the icon is therefore ironic.

The idea that I had was just to have a regular game, with people, but there are SO many variations out there it's mind-boggling. Just search "human chess" on youtube...

I'd like to see the Guests of Honor be the actual players, but it's really all an open question. Should be "pieces" be allowed to fight and win their space? Do we need some sort of skit for EVERY move, the way some RenFaires and Anime cons do?

Still an Idea, right now. But with all those balconies at the new hotel, this idea has SO much promise to it. ;)

I keep wondering if the balconies can take the load of a large audience. I know they should but I keep thinking of a couple disasters. The other thing I wonder about is if an audience on the balconies would muck up flow for those not watching the game. I am not familair with the hotel layout, so baybe it's a complete non-issue.

Any skit or such woudl have to rather impromptu and of course short. Heck, make it more interesting by letting the player-pieces decide (but they have to agree to "fight") on how much is done. From a completely gentlemanly handshake or such, though a scared running off, up to a bit of pseudo-wrestling or such. What will that one do?
