Went to a new faire. Spent Saturday, well a good chunk of it, at Rosenthorne Renaissance Faire in Elk River, MN. It's a small, first year, and shows. It would be easy to be quite negative about it. Yet I had a good time and expect with the changes planned (what I know of them) for next year, it could do very well then. Running five weekends the first year, and that after a sort of panicked rescue, takes quite a bit. Hey, Minstrosity, don't expect a huge crowd with lots of tips - but do expect to be treated well by those there and to have a leisurely good time. Also, if the frybread/pie place is there this coming weekend, they do well. (Hrm, perhaps I should send 'em directions to Lindey's Prime Steakhouse for Friday (or Saturday?) night.)

Sunday was a nice lazy day, overall. [livejournal.com profile] jmaynard dug out his negative scanner and we got that hooked up and working on belgian. Now I can scan negatives and get the pictures I take all digitized. I've scanned the first roll of film (of four) taken at Waterloo. Haven't done much editing, but if I send the scans to anyone, they can edit them down and adjust color from the raw image whatever way they want. I may do some tweaking for myself later.

This past weekend was (and is) Interlaken Heritage Days in Fairmont, which doesn't really mean much to me. It does mean there is a parade tonight and it goes right past the Mexican restaurant in town. So tonight won't be Mexican Monday for me and Jay. Maybe we'll try the Channel Inn, which hopefully won't be too smoky, and I can have a cheeseburger with green olives. Yum!

It's a first year show - we're not expecting a lot, honestly, but thanks for the heads up.

Dinner would be Saturday - Friday we expect to get in no earlier than midnight, and we will be more than ready to find a horizontal non-moving surface to sleep on. Suggestions (reasonably inexpensive) are certainly welcome for Saturday dinner, though.

Lindey's Prime Steakhouse serves, if not the best steak I've ever eaten, one of the top two. it's not inexpensive (expect to spend $30/person), but it's fantastic. The place in Medicine Lake, MN would be the best choice for a Saturday evening, coming from Elk River. If you're interested, directions can be had.

We're a little bit cheaper than that, I fear. John and Wendy are currently "between jobs", and I'm still watching the shekels myself.

In a completely unrelated-to-food area, what's the ground like - flat and grassy? Trees? How does it compare to the ground at, say, Waterloo (common point of reference for both of us)?

Relatively flat and grassy. There are a couple mild slopes and the Scottish Dancers did check the ground for holes/dips and it sounded like they might have encountered one, but I didn't get tripped up by any in my wanderings. It's a county fairgrounds, as I understand it, and is effectively treeless. Stages are not shaded. Any shade is provided by tent and there is one big open tent with picnic tables under it as a dining/resting area. Overall: treeless, grassy, nearly flat.
