I've seen folks say "Democrat Party" and getting told it's "Democratic Party." And seen them respond that they'll start using that name when it starts behaving that way. But the name is a problem. Who to believe?
You have a choice. You can believe the Democrats, or you can believe... the Democrats. Yes, they want it both ways.

Date: 15 Sep 2008 21:25 (UTC)I always thought it was a matter of the word "democrat", small "d", was conjugated: for example "the democrat said that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is one of the least democratic countries in the world." the words "democratic" (both instances) cannot be replaced with "democrat" as my understanding of English shows it.
For the record, there is a party in Canada, of a socialist bent (the third biggest party in the country, and sometimes forms provincial governments), called the "New Democratic Party", the members are called "New Democrats" (or "New Democrat", singular). It's never called the New Democrat Party.
