I'm not dining on Chinese cuisine today. I'll leave that for folks who are superstitious or such.

What reason could there be for eating Chinese food, other than to enjoy it?

Something about a bunch of games and or the belief that dates full of the digit 8 are somehow lucky.

I know the Olympics started today, and that it's 8/8/08. But is there a superstition associated with eating Chinese food on the eighth, or eating the food of the Olympic host country, or...?

Evidently there is for some, whichever it is, whether it's allegedly good luck or just game related. It's all rather silly to me.

The local radio DJ's recommended Olympic athletes avoid the "beagle with cream cheese" and "German shepherd's pie".

The quality of most television is something that can give a person an interest in radio. Radio like that is probably a good thing for the printed word.

I thought it was the Koreans, but I've heard legitimate news wire stories about Chinese restaurants near where tourists are likely to go "asked" to refrain from serving dog until after the Games, seen pictures emailed to me from restaurants away from the tourist areas having dog (and other things that don't look appetizing, but I don't like Chinese food anyways) right out in the open (this was well before the Games, and heard from people that have been there (but they didn't try it).

I'm fairly sure that in most of East Asia, any animal that's tasty is fair game for dinner, even if it would make a good pet.
