A little while back I posted about how none of the Presidential candidates seemed like a really good idea. Since then a few have dropped out of the race. I'm still not really liking any of the bunch very much.

Earlier this evening I received a phone call from a strange number, but the number was listed on the caller ID. When I answered, there was no weird auto-dial delay and switch, but a person spoke, immediately saying which campaign he was working for. There no push-poll nonsense. Just a polite asking if I was likely to support that candidate, if I'd be at the caucuses (Minnesota does the caucus thing), and if I would be interested in volunteering for the campaign. And no pressure when I said things he might not have liked.

That's right, I actually got an honest political phone call.

I don't know if that's just this part of the campaign or if it's been commanded from on high to not do the push-poll crap. And while I'm still not really liking anyone running, this is certainly the right way to campaign with the telephone.

The call was from the Romney campaign.

I've just stopped picking up my landline for the duration. If it's someone I want to talk to they probably have my cell number. If not, I'll call them back.

Ugh. There is NO right way to campaign with the telephone at all.

I agree that there are no very good candidates this year.

Looks like Romney is taking the fiscal/social conservatives, Huckabee is taking the evangelicals, and McCain is taking the moderate and liberal Republicans. So Romney and Huckabee are splitting the conservative vote, and in a winner-take-all primary, McCain will be the winner.

Clinton and Obama are neck and neck at the moment, Super Tuesday should indicate where things will end up. They both have appeal to liberals and moderates, but Clinton is more popular with the far left and Obama may pick up some conservatives, especially if McCain wins. Clinton may keep losing ground if she keeps using her husband as an attack dog on Obama.

My prediction is Obama > Hillary >= McCain > Romney > Huckabee. McCain vs. Clinton would be competitive, any other primary outcome would be a cakewalk for the Democrats.

An honest campaign! I'm impressed! I'm voting for Romney! I don't care if it's forbidden and illegal for me to vote in the election, I'm voting Romney! Oh, wait, if it's illegal, I'll vote for Huckabee. ;)

(I'm surprised [livejournal.com profile] wendyzski is going so far as to not answer her phone, I'm surprised it's that bad in the states. I've lived through my share of elections, and I'm not usually afraid of answering a phone from a campaign worker, they aren't pushy at all (even when I say I'm voting for the other guy.) Besides, I am determined to run for school board in 2010 when the vote comes up, so I gotta play nice, professional courtesy and all. ;)
