I haven't made up my mind for sure what to do about the 2009 ACME Calendar but I have decided I ought to be building up a collection of Orvan photos that could be used for a Calendar.
These would have to be public places, unless an arrangement with the property owner(s) could be had for access to non-public locations. I figure places like public parks and historical markers or such are probably about the best. But a scenic roadway or just a good spot downtown could work too. Note that places like malls are private and would need to be negotiated, and there is apt to be concern about wear a "mask" since my face will not be visible.
The ideal locations would be in southern Minnesota (including the Twin Cities), the Sioux Falls area, northern or central Wisconsin and perhaps Des Moines. This is just "places I can drive to" and am likely to either have someone with me or can find someone there to take the pictures and help with local navigation.
This is the season for Winter scenes (though I'd rather not have Orvan's feet in the snow - I want to keep him dry) but I can go places in other seasons as well.
It's far better to have too many suggestions and extra photos than to be wondering how to fill gaps. So, suggest away!
No brainer, really

(We were in Bemidji a couple years ago and meant to see that but for some reason never found it. Perhaps a revisit is in order ... )
Er, neat idea, but...
Date: 26 Jan 2008 22:36 (UTC)Unfortunately that is quite out of the way. Bemidji is in northern Minnesota. It's further north than Duluth, even. It's not a place I'm likely to get without making a special trip - and I need to find a photographer.
For local places, Jay could take the picture. I have family in Merrill, WI and
sistaur is in the Twin Cities. I have a couple friends in Des Moines with whom arrangement might be possible. And likewise in Sioux Falls.

Date: 26 Jan 2008 22:39 (UTC)I also hate random photo calendars.
Take advantage of the general themes of the months.
January is a good New Years or snow theme.
February, have him lugging a bag of Valentines.
March is St. Paddy's Day.
April? Springtime. Maybe Easter. Check what day its on. Also, rain. That'll be a tough one to work out.
May? Mother's Day. I have a cute idea for that. Look up MightyTauren from Wisconsin, I believe. Have him suit up and put on a wig and shawl. Orvan's mama. The image is PRICELESS, dude.
June is summer. Don't know what you could do.
July is always associated with fireworks in America. Have Orvan watching fireworks.
August is a toughy.
Orvan loading school supply boxes in September.
Something spooky for October.
November is turkey and football!
Have Orvan delivering a Christmas tree or presents in December.
Hope these ideas helped.

Date: 26 Jan 2008 23:26 (UTC)I tried to keep to themes in the 2008 Calendar (http://www.acme-delivery.com/images/calendar/2008/) and would like to keep that, though variations could get get tricky.
I'm not sure that the temporal theming is essential. Sometimes it's nice to see a colder image in the heat of Summer and a warmer one in the cold of Winter. Right now I'm not so much trying for set themes or such so much as to just build up a good image library so that I'll have it available. After all, if I get say, 100 images (and that would take some time and effort) there's a good chance I might find an appropriate 12 in the bunch.
