I don't get the flu shot because I'm allergic to sulfur.

Now this raises more questions, such as how did they find this out?

(Myself, I haven't been officially diagnosed allergic to anything, but, as I think I mentioned before, potatoes never fail to harf me (despite the fact that I like several potato dishes), and also both my parents are allergic to penicillin, so, as a precaution, I've never been given it - but I've never been tested to see if I'm allergic to it either ... )

I'm also allergic to the 'cillens. I was prescribed Sulfa drugs in place of antibiotics and broke out into a rash. It was obviously the medication that made me sicker, so "they" decided I was allergic. I sometimes have a reaction to eating eggs that tastes like sulfer, so I was told not to get the flu shot.

Sounds reasonable. Have you looked into the nasal vaccine? It might not have the same issues withe component allergies.

The vaccine is still grown in eggs. I'd rather stay away from vaccines, anyway.

Don't normally get flu shots because I'm too damn disorganized to remember them until after they're no longer available.

Thankfully, I've been lucky enough not to get the flu, either. Maybe because I drink craploads of apple juice... for the taste, but getting ten times the daily Vitamin C requirement is nice, too.

Interesting. It appears that the third wombat's the charm. I wonder why that is...

Flu shots are not my friend; I end up getting the flu (usually a variant) from them. (And it's flu, not just a cold or sinus infection; I've had it confirmed in the past.)

Pneumonia shot, however, work pretty well (but you don't have to get them more than once every few years, though).

I used to get them, but I don't anymore. The two years I got them, I ended up getting the flu later in the season. The past ten years, I haven't gotten the flu.

Interesting how most people are choosing the third wombat, eh?

It's likely you got a different strain of flu. The vaccine in any particular year is an educated guess about which strain is going to be the widespread one that year.

But of course, they can be wrong, or other things can be floating out there as well :/

Never had the flu. Colds, yes, but never the flu.

I am not a high-risk group. I have no problems. If I did get the flu, I'd just be sick. There is no reason to get it.

And, quite frankly, I think the nearly regulation of something that is not proven in any sense is just messed up.

As someone with a chronic illness (asthma) I am in the group recommended to get the shot, primarily because I'm likely to end up with a serious secondary infection. The one year I didn't get the shot I ended up spending 3 weeks in bed with a fever so high I was hallucinating.

I also get the pneumonia vax every 5 years because I've HAD that and it's no fun.
