Wax beans

It seems that when I visit sistaur there is some sort of minor culinary glitch. Once it was a dish that was supposed to be spicy and the fumes from it made my eyes water as it was being prepared, yet it wasn't spicy at all when served. And this was not a "trying something new" dish, but one that had been done before with the expected results. I mention that example to show that it a minor thing. The dish was quite good, just not spicy as we had been expecting.

Last night the glitch wasn't the food, but the lighting. There is a sort of chandelier arrangement for tea lights that hangs above the table. Last night we got that lit, as we had done before, and started in a simple meal that included green beans. Partway through the meal there was sudden *crack* of glass and a splash of wax. The wick of one of the tea light candles had gotten close to the edge and the heat of the flame caused the glass of the diffuser (my term for it) to shatter from thermal shock. This sent not only a few chunks of glass raining down, but also a fair amount of molten wax.

The result was that my green beans had flecks of wax in them. I'd heard of yellow beans being called wax beans, but this was rather more literal. I found a bit of glass on my plate and lost my appetite. A while later I noticed that the beans didn't get that much wax, as most was on the table or on my right arm. In the excitement, I hadn't really noticed the wax on my arm. It was sort of a spray so it was fairly cool by the time it hit me. It wasn't as if it been a single big blob of hot wax.

The way things have been going of late, the whole incident was a fairly minor disaster. Still, it confirmed that my plans to stay the night and drive home rested and in daylight were probably for the best.

Er, I have already left sistaur's place due to sudden changes in plans. I will, however, be back in the area (in fact, at the Park & Fly or such) Monday afternoon. Alternately, I can get you her contact info via another channel and you two can work out how to get the box from you to her, and I'll pick it up from her.
