vakkotaur: Centaur holding bow - cartoon (orvan)

I spent most of the weekend visiting [livejournal.com profile] sistaur who has been enjoying having her house to herself (and two dogs, a cat, and a rabbit) for the last few weeks. The departure of $HOUSEMATE was a Good Thing. The only downside was that there was a lack of some furniture after the departure. A couple trips to Ikea took care of that, or most if it. There is now a couch that folds down to being a nice, flat bed and a new kitchen table and chairs.

The ox-like powers? That was to get the old too-big-for-the-kitchen table into the basement, as well as collecting stuff from the stock/warehouse area of Ikea, and loading and unloading the car with said stuff. Fortunately [livejournal.com profile] sistaur's car is a hatchback and there were bungee cords handy.

[livejournal.com profile] sistaur is thoroughly enjoying having the house to herself (aside from the critters) and being able to organize things as she sees fit. And choose the furniture as she sees fit.

I did get to see how the critters interact, when they do. The dogs pretty much don't pay much attention to the cat and rabbit. The rabbit seems to be observant of all both dogs and the cat, but didn't seem too concerned by them. The cat mostly seems to ignore the rabbit. I did see a couple things that makes me wonder how much of an act the cat is putting on, though.

You've heard of a pussycat? This is a pushycat. If I sit down on a couch and [livejournal.com profile] sistaur isn't around (and sometimes if she is) the cat approaches and butts its head into me or seems to rub or grind it, demanding attention. Sometimes the bunny will hop up and then over to me, though that seems to happen only if pushycat isn't right there. Last night the rabbit got to me first, then the cat did its thing, and they were both on or near my lap. Less than a blink and the rabbit is at the far end of the couch and the cat has a mouthful of bunny hair. No blood, but... I got the distinct impression that was the cat saying, "Hey, that's my attention, now git!" Later I saw the cat almost pounce the rabbit - not a direct pounce, but close enough and sudden enough for the rabbit to flee. Later still I saw the cat stalking the rabbit. These things are behaviors that [livejournal.com profile] sistaur said she hadn't seen. She will be watching for them now, however.

I guess I just haven't had all that much to say of late is all. I'm starting to get ready for MFF.

I think the rabbit-cat interaction depends on how old they were when they were first introduced, and how large the rabbit is. I know several people with both critters.
