"Cingular is now AT&T"

I've heard that from the various commercials. Today I saw it. I went to check something on the cell phone and noticed that where it had displayed 'Cingular' it now displays 'AT&T'. The case still has the Cingular markings complete with the dotted X or silly stickman or whatever the Cingular symbol was supposed to be.

When Sprint changed their color scheme and logo, it was similar, but I actually had to update the firmware to get the yellow screen (and some badly-needed bug fixes; it was a Treo, after all). The device itself still had the red diamond on there and the old font.

My new phone's the real deal, though. QIX logo and everything.

The ads I've seen usually say something along the lines of "Cingular's name is now AT&T", implying (but not saying, for legal reasons, because it's false) that Cingular just changed it's name to AT&T, so whenever you see AT&T, it's just the Cingular you know and love under a different name. Of coruse, those who haven't lived under a rock all their lives and have *heard* of AT&T, and know that it was around when the Cingular logo was a _real_ jack (and kids played with them!) know that that's a crock, but that's probably why the ads are carefully worded as such.
