vakkotaur: Centaur holding bow - cartoon (orvan-badge)

I was up well before my roommate and host and managed to have a proper breakfast. I joined or was joined by James Ward (aka Oldfreek, who I was at least aware of if I didn't know him from RCFM) and we chatted a bit. Or maybe that was Sunday. I'm not entirely sure of the order of things as time has passed and I wasn't taking notes at all.

After breakfast and around or before noon, there more ACME deliveries. The idea was to get everyone before the authors left for their off-site lunch. I think I got everyone, though the last delivery was done in the parking lot as the guy was about to leave. He apologized to Orvan for "making him come out in the heat." By then I really didn't notice it being much if any hotter outside than inside. The deliveries might have been in two sessions - or maybe it was deliveries and the Cow Tails give-away bit. Again, it's been a few days and I was more concerned about doing things than recording them.

The Cow Tails giveaway went well with a single exception. Again it was on little kid who was scared of the big ox. James Ward related later that the kid had been scared of his puppets as well and evidently wasn't dealing with anything furry very well. He suspected that perhaps his mother's efforts at comforting him might have made things worse. I tried the act-scared-of-him bit but the only thing that helped was distance and plenty of it.

In the evening with everything delivered and most of the Cow Tails given away, I figured Orvan was done making appearances and clipped his badge to my shirt so that folks could see who it was. This paid off. I got a lot of "Oh, YOU'RE the ox?!" and it was meant in good, complimentary way. Or there was some expression of sympathy for wearing fur in the relative heat. While the hotel is air conditioned, and the rooms set to a temperature some might consider chilly, the hallways - even the empty ones - were rather warm.

At one point the Hoyts were waiting (and waiting) for spaghetti/pasta to be served (or served again) in the con suite. I suggested they try BarFly Central as they had four big pots ready there. And Sarah Hoyt wanted some cow tails. I went back to the room and met them again at BarFly Central. They got the Cow Tails and had their spaghetti supper and we talked (or rather, I listened a lot) for at least a couple hours.

Eventually John Ringo and Mad Mike showed up and after a while something was up. A few folks got together and with a few guns, some cigarettes and cigars, and a few bottles from the bar and a picture was set up: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

I wondered through the party hallway and stopped in at (one of the) alien rooms and had something blue. It was a "Pan Galactic Gargle-Blaster" and even without the benzene, I was careful to not have more than one as I am nowhere near being an Acturan Mega-Elephant with bronchial pneumonia. While I was there, someone caught up with me - and that's a story for another posting.

The excitement of that (it was good, really) probably helped me stay up longer. And after the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster I had intended to ease way off. But I goofed and wandered into the Louisiana room... and was served at least a partial Hurricane. I took that very slowly and avoided any more alcohol after that. I also ate a fair amount. No, I ate an unfair amount and I'm still carrying it around it. But at least when I did go to sleep I wasn't feeling out of it and thus when I woke up on Sunday (well, later Sunday morning) I felt alright.

Hey all that sounds like you had a great time over there. Perhaps I need to find out about local conventions here in Oklahoma.
