Fish Taco. That just sounds wrong to me and has for some time. I'd heard of such for some time, but had never had them as I'd never encountered a place that served them. Last night that changed. For supper, [livejournal.com profile] sistaur, [livejournal.com profile] jmaynard, and I went to Baja Sol Tortilla Grill. The menu included fish tacos, and so I ordered those to try them.

Fish tacos aren't as weird as I'd thought, but they still seem rather strange. I could see having them again, but I'd more likely have something with chicken. Maybe it's the breading that put me off. The result is sort of like a fish fry in a soft taco shell. I don't even have regular fish fries much any more, as I find deep-fried things less and less appealing.

I had my first one a couple years ago in California visiting Buzzy. They'd be weirder if they were ground or shredded fish instead of fried fish filets. Anyway, if they're traditionally prepared, they're tasty if not healthy.

Here in Atlanta, I've only had them with grilled or sauteed fish. Usually they're sauteed with crispy cabbage and topped with a bit of a jalepeno cream sauce.

I would agree ones with breading would seem strange.

I love the fried fish tacos at Berryhill's, although I have to ask them to leave off the cilantro (the stuff tastes like SOAP!) They also have grilled fish tacos, but the menu says they put chipotle chili sauce on those. I wonder if they'd leave that off... and if they did, what would be left?

Man, someday I need to rehaul the HTML for my multipage cartoons.

But yaay!

It's really good to hear that you "find deep-fried things less appealing". My wife recently made a menu/lifestyle change after a gallbladder scare and has similarly cut out greasy, fried, etc. stuff (however, our dinners are getting monotonous quickly). I think she still has a craving for the "old" stuff, but so far has stayed well on the wagon and has made very good weight loss. If you find those things "less and less appealing", perhaps she will too.
