hakeber asked about scarring music, "...songs that made me lunge for the radio in my haste to change the station." A few of the replies mentioned Terry Jacks' Seasons in the Sun.
I sort of heard that tune growing up. I recall the line that stood out, "We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun." and nothing else. Or at least that's all I used to recall. A few years ago I was driving somewhere out of range of my usual radio station(s) before I had XM. Wandering around the broadcast bands, Seasons in the Sun came on and I got curious about the rest of the lyrics. While I might have heard them, I never paid them any attention before. This time I did. Ignorance was bliss in this case. What a terribly depressing tune that is. I've done what I can to put it out of mind. Tried. Right now I have that one line stuck in my mind. Fortunately that's the only part of that wretched song that's stuck there.
I'm attempting treatment for this. Can someone crank Iron Man? Thank you.
Dun-dun--dundundun...

For me, it was always anything by Bon Jovi that had me diving for the radio. Nothing like power ballads written out of American Greetings condolence cards to make a frontal lobotomy sound desirable.

Yes, it's another earworm, but it's marginally less damaging, at least IMNSHO.
