"Cherry Essence"

Remember that silly rumor about prune juice in Dr Pepper? It seems that people who can't identify a flavor are apt to believe anything... since the main flavor of Dr Pepper is black cherry, which isn't all that common. I've experienced a weird reversal of that rumor now.

The last time I bought prunes I thought I'd try something different and so bought the "Cherry Essence" variety. I should have read the label in more detail. "Natural and artificial flavors" is part of what the label reads. I suspect mainly artificial flavors. It is quite strange to open the bag of prunes and get a smell that I recognize, strongly, as "Cherry Soda." I'm not sure if I'm still curious enough to try the "Orange Essence" variety now.

*I* always knew it was black cherry! At Anthrocon 2003 or maybe 4, the TTA gang I was hanging out with got pizza on Sunday, but they didn't have any Dr Pepper. Mostly just different flavors of Faygo. So I tried black cherry Faygo, and it was close enough to Dr Pepper to suit me!
