This pretty much sums things up. As [livejournal.com profile] foolscap001 said here and [livejournal.com profile] jmaynard said here the inclusion of the bit that says if you don't post it you are a bigot by implication is objectionable. The intention might be the good, but the execution is of the annoying "repost this or else" type that is quite off-putting. It's even worse than the annoying "Name five people to..." bit.

Consider the following example:

If you truly believe in a round earth, then re-post this and title the post as "Round Earth". If however you believe in a flat earth, then just ignore this. Thanks.

So how many people, for whatever reason, simply wouldn't see that, or would see it but decide that they have good reason not to re-post it and thus be seen by implication as flat earthers?

I quite agree with the ire at the "post this or else" tag on so many email chains/spam around. My wife gets so unhinged about it (she literally loses sleep and approaches an anxiety attack when she recieves one, not because she didn't pass it on, but wondering why a "friend" would forward "that garbage" to her) to the point that she's asked me to log in to her email account beforehand and remove all those emails before she sees them. (That and she's quite the technological luddite, so if she has her geek husband (my phrase, she doesn't like the word geek) filter down her emails this way she's only reading what she wants, and she gets less email than she's actually recieving. I guess I"ve become a human spam filter!)
