A Long Way 'Round
18 September 2006 10:18Friday I drove from Fairmont to Red Oak, IA by way of Sioux Falls, Sioux City, and almost Council Bluffs. I wound up going through Avoca, where the Nishna faire used to be held. This did not take a mere four and a half hours, but a solid six hours. In Nodaway
foolscap001 suggested taking US 34 east to Osceola and then I-35 through Des Moines (and not take I-235) for comparison. It did not take six and a half hours, but only five and a half.
The result is that I drove a very large loop through Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa. And now I know which way is shorter or faster to Nodaway, if not by much. The longer trip there wasn't wasted, as I found or at least confirmed that it's a three trip from Fairmont to Sioux City. That's just close enough to make a day-trip or something close to it possible for Riverssance.
