vakkotaur: (faire)

Last night a reservation was made so I have a room for the Amana Colonies Renaissance Faire. I've also arranged to take a few hours off work so I can drive to Cedar Rapids in the afternoon rather than evening.

This looks to be a really fun faire. Not only is it being run by someone other than the guy who ran previous Amana faires over Labor Day weekend, Danza Mystique will be there as they have been at late summer Amana faires past. Minstrosity will be there. And as if that wasn't enough, Mistress Bawd will also be there. I'm really looking forward to this faire.

We'll be there as tourists...

We're day tripping it on Saturday, assuming all goes well.

I have hopes for this event. Back around the start of the year, I mentioned the Death Trap stage, and DK said he'd bring the issue up with the folks who own the venue.

I remember that. I hope it has been taken care of. Danza doesn't need any more nasty surprises - and neither does anyone else.

The one stage that's under a roof (not the building one food vendor is in, but the one under just a roof with open sides) had a set of steps on one end. A few years ago, when climbing up onto the stage. [livejournal.com profile] irpooh stepped on one step and broke it. No injuries, IIRC, but the steps were never fixed (they were shoved under the stage and left there for at least a couple of years). THere's a set of steps on the front of the stage that are just fine, and the stage itself is good, but that broken set of steps was just a bit much.

I had heard that the steps gave out when one of the younger Danzans was being carried up onto the stage. The stage itself is rather mushy and is, given the collapse of the steps, more than a little suspect.

The site has a covered stage area with a wooden stage at the front, surrounded on the edges with wooden boards to sit on and with picnic tables for seating. At the time Greg Schmidt held a fair there, and probably for some years before that, all that wood was rotten. Nobody would want to put anything on the picnic tables; the wooden seating around the edge tilted and sagged alarmingly, and the stage and steps to it were an accident waiting to happen.

One year, Danza Mystique performed there, and for one show, Katalena was brought up on stage wrapped in a carpet a la Cleopatra being presented to Julius Caesar. The gentleman carrying her got to the second step...and went right through it. As far as I know, nobody was hurt--and it was a miracle. When we (at the time, I was still a Trolle) went on that stage, it felt like it would give way any second.

The year after, we went back.... and nothing at all had been done to the stage. The broken step lay precisely where it fell.

Yes ... we'll be tourists

Probably won't be able to be "incognito" for some reason we can't seem to do that... but we'll be there... and Scurvy will probably be in the Van... cuz of course more people want to see him, than want to see us! GRIN
