The Wedding Day
6 July 2006 16:00Fairly early Saturday morning Jay and I went to a local diner which, to my pleasant surprise, had ham & cheese omelettes with jalapenos. After our return, things started to get crowded or at least active in the kitchen area. Jay wasn't feeling the best and he may have taken a nap. Ezra and I decided the best thing we could do was to get out of the way. We went to a rather small nearby store where he picked up a few things. When we got back, things were still busy but seemed a bit more organized.
The scheduling problem lead to another problem: the justice o' the peace had a schedule conflict and wouldn't be available in the afternoon. There followed a series of calls to various places in hopes of finding someone to perform the ceremony at a time it could be legally performed. Meanwhile, the reception was held as people were there in the morning and early afternoon and so was all the food.
In the early afternoon it was decided that the it was time to cut the cake, and
verypinkygirl did so. Someone noted that the wedding day was running backwards. Some folks unfortunately had to leave before the actual ceremony, due to their schedules. The good news was that someone was found who could and would do the ceremony around 5 PM.
The actual wedding went rather well, though there was a bit of confusion when there was a question about who the best man was and Ezra and I turned to each other, each insisting it was the other. It was Ezra. I was expecting that, considering he and
pharwarner have known each other for some time, and given the travel distances involved I'd have been utterly surprised had it been otherwise in any way.
There followed much (more) photography. It seemed almost everyone had a camera of their own, and there was a basket of single-use cameras that also were used. All of these saw use throughout the day. I'm not sure what all happened after that. Eventually I think the Dallas folks left and a few folks wanted to have supper that wasn't stuff from the reception. I went along for the company as I wasn't really hungry having eaten too much through the day.
Later, a few of us went swimming in the moonlight and starlight. The place has a pool and neighbors (not next door) to either side were shooting off fireworks. It seemed like a bit after one side stopped, the other side would start in. These "dueling fireworks" displays went on for some time.
