Thank you very much for finding my two cents on the Animaniacs interesting, Vakkotaur. I discovered Animaniacs twelve years too late but I'm really impressed by their outstanding virtues, and every clip of Animaniacs I watch surprises me positively. I guess I'm not saying anything that you didn't already know, though :)
Not too late at all. Just not as soon as some others.
The first DVD of Animaniacs and of Pinky and the Brain is being released (in the U.S.A.) 25 July 2006. These will be the "first season" for each show. Animaniacs later seasons aren't considered as reliably amusing as the first season, but are still amusing overall. The short second season is might be 'worst' as it was put together in hurry. Supposedly material that was made but not deemed good enough for the first 65 episodes was quickly assembled into six episodes.
On another note, the picture you used as a link for "inkblots" is by verypinkygirl. I was at her (and pharwarner's) wedding a few weeks ago. They've only gotten home in the last few days, so she's been rather busy.
