Now that FWA is over and the folks who were there are starting to read LJ again, and now that [livejournal.com profile] jmaynard has decided to go to CostumeCon, it seems to be time for me to post about a hotel room. The past few cons I've split a room with [livejournal.com profile] kinkyturtle and I would do so again, but this time I can't. As KT is a Guest of Honor, his room is being taken care of and I'm certainly not going to try to horn in on that. [It turns out I misunderstood something and KT & I will be sharing a room after all. We are willing to spread/reduce costs a bit more. A "room" at RCFM is effectively two rooms so there's room for one or two more.]

As I won't be splitting a room with Jay or with KT, that means I either have a room, and its expense, to myself, or I can split the room and cost with someone (or more than one) else. That will reduce cost for all involved.

I have yet to reserve a room, but I do plan on doing so just as soon as the details of RCFM reservations have been worked out. I plan to reserve a non-smoking room with separate beds for Thursday through Monday nights. I expect to arrive around 3:00 PM, the earliest check-in time as I recall, and depart somewhat early Tuesday morning.

I'd prefer to have a check or money order either in advance or at the con, but not cash (as I might spend that). I'd prefer to room with folks I already know to avoid potentially problematic surprises, but I also realize that that might not necessarily happen. I'd make some inquiries to friends about anyone I don't know all that well. Therefore I'd suggest if you're wondering about my handling of this sort of thing to note that last year I split a room with [livejournal.com profile] kinkyturtle, and for part of the time, [livejournal.com profile] jugularjaguar and [livejournal.com profile] chakawolf so you can ask them about how it worked out.

Anyone interested? Have any questions?

Vakko is a great room mate, lots of fun and always pays his bills. Just beware of his peppermint snowshoe booze he brings. :)

Thanks for the reference...

I don't have any more of that and I do warn people that the stuff packs a wallop. And while I have a great fondness for mint, a little Snoeshoe goes a long way. I'll also mention that I actually drink very little, preferring to remain in control of myself. I did the "drink enough so that walking takes concentration" once and found I didn't like it, so I haven't done that again.

Hypothetically, if i went (which is totally feasible since it's only 7 hours of driving) what would be the cost of splitting the room and what would be the "rules of conduct" so to speak?

Assuming that RCFM and the hotel get things straightened out (there's been some glitches (http://community.livejournal.com/rcfm/14579.html)) and I can get the $66/night base rate... I think the state and county sales taxes total to 5% and there's a $1 per night per person local tax, it would work out to about $24 per night for a three-way split (you, me, and KT). If there's a fourth person, then it'd drop to about $18 per night. If I got the tax calculation wrong and it's more, that's my fault and I'll cover it. If it's less, I will not keep your money. There'd be two beds, and I don't really need to have one as I can bring a sleeping bag and I think the couch in one area of the suite may fold out but that isn't certain (there was some furniture being changed last year, as I recall). I will not ask KT to give up his bed, though. I think more than four people staying in the room would be a bit of a squeeze.

As for rules of conduct, I think it'd just be pretty sane stuff. No illicit drugs, no drinking to excess, and simple respect for other's stuff and to try to preserve what little privacy there may be. Neither KT nor I are planning on hosting a room party or anything, but that's about it. I suppose just try to be somewhat quiet if someone else is sleeping. Not a really big deal.

I'd want to ask KT about your joining us. I doubt he'd have a problem with it, but I cannot speak for him. If there was any fourth person, all three of us would have to agree about that whoever it was would be an acceptable addition.

Oh, if you want I can phone you tonight or sometime (though not Thursday this week) and you can ask about any specific concerns or such. I think I still have your number in my cell phone.

If you want to room with us, it's fine with me!
