MFF 2006 Decision
28 November 2005 21:30The votes say to go with the regular entry fee, but MFF is in Chicago so, like in Chicago, the actual votes don't get the final say. There was the point about supporting the con, especially early on when things are still largely in the planning stages. I've heard back from folks doing a similar special entry thing who said that the extra money arrived just in time to get something done easily. So there's a good reason there. One person mentioned a karmic bonus, and while I don't attribute much to that directly, I wouldn't mind if it worked.
The extras certainly are not worth the additional fee, at least looked at from a purely compensatory and monetary point of view. But then that is true of pretty much all extras in these sorts of things.
So I'm springing for the full sponsorship. Most of the fee will actually be covered by the money I'll be getting back from the lost money order, so in a sense it's money I'd already allocated to MFF. Everything will be mailed tomorrow, Registered! Having seen how the USPS reacts when they just think they lost a piece of registered mail, and having seen how well it is handled and tracked, I know it'll get there this time.
