Presumption

Every summer the place at which I work has a company picnic. And every year I do not go, for various reasons. The thing is, the way the invitation, if it can be called that, is worded.

___ I plan on attending.
___ My guest and I plan on attending.
___ I am unable to attend.

I don't return this unless someone asks for it specifically. Why? There is no right choice. I am not planning on attending. I am not unable to attend. I simply choose not to. That is, I refuse to attend. And that isn't considered.

Missing the reference

I don't watch much TV. Nor do I listen to commercial radio very much. And "popular" magazines and tabloids are things I tend not to read. This results in a disconnect from that thing known as 'pop culture'.

While I heard a name, well two names, on and off, in the background of things for some time, it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I made the connection. There is this person Jennifer Lopez. Her name(s) get abbreviated to "J.Lo". For some time I had no idea that these were the same person. I had figured "J.Lo" was some rapper, since the abbreviation sounds to me like a rapper name.
