Saturday's first real event for me was the supersponsor's lunch which was at the same Chinese/Japanese buffet as last year. Babs wasn't there as she really doesn't care for that style cuisine. I'm not sure if it was her or someone else who said they feel ill just from the smell, so going wasn't a good idea. [livejournal.com profile] 2_gryphon was there as was another guest of honor. I'm not all that big of a fan of 2 and disagree with him on a fair amount, but when he's not "on" he seems to be pretty decent. From what I saw, he seems to realize he has a rather large following and idles back some to give others a better chance to be seen or heard. I can respect him.

The navigator for the drive to the restaurant directed me through town rather than taking the interstate this year. The result was we saw the sign for a Newby Rd. KT should have a picture of it he took on the way back to the hotel.

The fursuit parade was short, from my point of view, but good. I was in the dealer's area when they came through. I didn't get a shot of the bunch as group, which happened either before the parade or just after.

Jugular/Draconis hosted a bit of a discussion looking for ideas for the variety show and there were a couple. It was a bit odd that this discussion was held after the allegedly mandatory rehearsal for the show. One idea didn't work out and it might be done later, so I won't go into it. It would have involved me, but having seen the situation when the show occurred, I think it was a good idea to scratch the bit for the show. The other actually happened and involved having a host other than 2 start the show, and computery dialog box would up offering an upgrade to version 2, and then 2 would take over as host. Through the show, other dialog boxes would pop up between acts and need to be dealt with. Much of this was well though out, but one thing changed (well, several, really, but one critical thing changed) at the last minute. I'll get to that in the Sunday entry.

I think I spent most of my time either wandering about or in the dealer's area. Somehow few of the panels that were on the schedule appealed to me. Which is odd as I recall being interested in some before the con. I missed the panel with Bill Holbook (who wasn't there yet, so it was without him) and KT. I also missed the bit with meeting the guests of honor but evidently I didn't miss much. I know who 2 is, and I'd met Babs already, and the other guest of honor was someone was around last year and didn't really impress me. Evidently there was a bit of harf and my take on things only got reinforced this year.

There was a pasta feed for supper, which started late. I gave up on waiting around in a hot sunlit hallway for food I'm not that crazy about and sat down in the con suite, snacking a bit since I was hungry. Nexus proclaimed that I was a true Furry. "They're serving pasta out there and he's in here eating chocolate." Well, 1. They were not yet serving anything out there. 2. It was hot in the sunlit line. 3. I don't care much for pasta anyway. When the line was about cleared out and I'd seen people with some actual food (I'm not sure pasta counts, really) then I went and got a bit to eat. Someone wondered why I was so late. I was even considering just going out and getting a burger or something somewhere instead, but laziness won out. While I waited (sitting down rather than standing, call that 4.) Nexus related his travel troubles. The hyperdiscount service he had had somehow screwed things up so he didn't have a flight home, so he'd need to make some other arrangements. At that time, they had not yet been made.

I saw 2's show. It wasn't bad, but having seen him perform a couple times now, I'm not sure I need to see his show again for a while. KT's cartoon diary will likely suffice for some time. It's not that the material doesn't change - it does. It's just.. not my thing.

At some point KT did a silly drawing in own of my sketchbooks. It was of a donkey, well, half a donkey, getting asked why he always did a half-assed job. I suggested a different cartoon, which he did in his own sketchbook. This was a Jar Jar Binks picture that I expect will cause more than a little groaning and disappointment. It's supposed to.

The last event of the night, at least that I stayed awake for, was Chaka's "Fabricated Friends" discussion about plush critters. Who had what, when they were acquired, how they got named, if they did and so on. It was a nice little group, though at first it had a couple problems. There wasn't enough light with two lamps out of commission. One had burnt out bulb and the other, it was eventually found, was just not plugged in. Also, at first there was some game going on in the same room and that generated a fair amount of noise. Two things in the same room don't quite work out. The only really bad part was that I had to duck for something and missed it when it was Babs' turn at the roundtable.
