One song, two interpretations.

Jay mentioned that a certain phrase was in two songs of rather different styles for rather different times. I tend to think of the older tune and Jay tends to think of the newer when that phrase is mentioned. There is a tune that evokes similarly different reactions from us.

A few days ago I walked to The Goose, a nearby restaurant and bar, for lunch. As there is a bar, there is also a television. As I was eating, the National Anthem was played. My reaction? I had a momentary puzzled thought, "It isn't the end of the broadcast day already." A moment later I realized it was just some ball game starting.

I mentioned this to jmaynard and noted that it was strange for him to hear an orchestral version of the anthem that didn't have cheering at the end. When I hear the anthem, I tend to expect see jets on the tv screen.
