vakkotaur: (yikes)

I've seen more than a few claims that dissent and expression is being suppressed in the U.S.A. but haven't seen much in the way of real proof. The louder folks claiming such seem to be doing a great job of being counter-examples to their own claims.

While watchfulness should be appreciated - the price of freedom being eternal vigilance and all - perhaps some of that watchfulness could benefit others. Isn't it worrying that the European Union may be considering a restriction that is reminiscent of the practice of the Communist regime of China?

The best way to dispose of "bad speech" is not suppression and censorship, but countering it with "good speech." Let there be antidotes and proper warnings and better choices made plain, rather than just the removal of the labels from bottles of poison.

I've heard the term "dangerous weapon" and find it rather silly. If a weapon isn't dangerous, does it really qualify as a weapon? Or maybe it's one that even used properly would be likely to harm the user? That'd be a dangerous weapon. A properly maintained weapon is not a danger in itself. Yet even things not intended to be effective weapons can be a problem when in the hands of dangerous people.
