Jay and I decided to look at treadmills yesterday, something we'd been planning on for a while. We figured we'd look, maybe pick something out, and buy later, since the prices would likely put immediate purchase beyond what we cared to spend just now.
After lunch, we went to the one store in town that was likely (and known) to have treadmills. Right outside the door in mallway they had one set out on display. We looked it over a little and went to look at the rest. The range of prices was bit wider than we'd expected, and the lower end was much more affordable than expected.
A clerk tried to he helpful, and actually was. He didn't point out any real differences and didn't try to push us to an expensive model. In a while we had it narrowed down to two of the less expensive models. They didn't have a certain show brand name on them, and where also a bit narrower than the widest models. A little more time and we chose one. Not the fancier of the two, but the slightly pricier, as it felt more sturdy and we deemed that sturdiness worth the charge. And even then we could afford it right now.
Eventually we were told there weren't any more of that model in stock. But, if we wanted, we could buy the display model. We wanted to see it work, just to be sure. It was plugged in and turned on, and with the safety key in place, the main system ran fine. The console display, however, was dead. A bit more time, the manual, and a couple AA cells and that was proven to work as well. And so we bought it. As it was a display model there were two advantages: It was already assembled. It was discounted (an additional) 20%. Thus it cost not much more than the cheaper model we had looked at.
Transporting it was a minor chore. I think I could have done that with my car, but it'd have been a decidedly less than pleasant experience. The RX300 made it almost trivial to deal with. The hardest part was getting it from the vehicle into the house. I think my back is still feeling some of that.
The treadmill will likely get moved, within the room it is in now, some in order to use space better or maybe get a better view of the TV for the user. I did spend some time using it already, though well after we moved it in. It's probably not a coincidence that I slept rather well last night and feel a bit more awake today. Well, getting to bed a bit earlier than usually probably helped, but that was likely influenced some.
Now I don't have an excuse (like weather) for not walking every or every other day. And I can have a CD or tape or DVD or videotape to add to things. Right now my objective is a very very simple and easy one: Get under 220 lbs. (I'm very close to that, so it may be possible within the week, even.) Ideally I'd like to be around (or under!) 200 lbs by faire season (roughly, late May). That may be more difficult, but I do recall getting there once before. I can do that again. Somehow I see more than a few Subway meals on the way.
